Kongresisti Eliot Engel është ndarë sot nga jeta në moshën 79-vjeçare.
Ai kishte përfaqësuar New York-un në Dhomën e Përfaqësuesve nga viti 1989 e deri më 2021.
Engel kishte qenë zë i fuqishëm në ShBA për kauzën e shqiptarëve, sidomos asaj të Kosovës.
Ai i kishte bërë thirrje presidentit të atëhershëm amerikan, Bill Clinton, që të interventonte në Kosovë dhe të ndalonte spastrimin etnik të shqiptarve nga forcat serbe.
Kontributi i tij kishte vijuar edhe pas luftës, pasi Engeli kishte qenë proponent i pavarësisë së Kosovës që eventualisht erdhi më 2008.
